As you are aware , the local government periodic elections in November next year are fast approaching. Relative to this the Local Government (Elections) (Miscellaneous) Amendment Bill 2009 completed its passage through the parliamentary process on Thursday  last and received assent on 5 November 2009. Our expectation is that these amemdments to the Local Government (Elections) Act 1999 will come into operation imminently given the impact upon next year's periodic election. LG Hot Matters

Early in  2007 funding from the Local Government Research & Development Fund was allocated for SAIRA to engage consultants to evaluate and report on "Maintenance of Rate Administrators in Local Government.  This project was titled "New Horizons for the Rate Profession in SA" and was  undertaken by Fran Whittingham of Janet Gould + Associates.  The project was completed in June 2007 and the report  is now available for downloading.
